Gary Mayor to Suit up and Play Against Harlem Globetrotters
Earlier this week, a press conference was held featuring Harlem Globetrotter, Buckets Blakes. As a player ambassador for the Globetrotters, Blakes talked about the upcoming game at the Genesis Convention Center that will be played on Wed. 23 at 7p.m. at the Genesis Convention in Gary and the many charitable initiatives that the Globetrotters tout.
Blakes also signed autographs and took photos with Gary youth. The youngsters also received complimentary tickets to the game. Among those attending the press conference were members of the Gary West Side High School basketball team. (See photos attached)
Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson has confirmed that she will in fact suit up tomorrow night and play against the Globetrotters since more than 5,000 people are slated to come to the game.
“It’s time for me to warm up my jumpshot,” joked the Mayor. “The citizens met my challenge, so I must keep my word and suit up to play.”
Tickets are still available at the Genesis Center Box Office and range in price from $12 - $50.
