Killer Named in Jerry Hood Murder Case
Today, Officer Larry Robertson of the Gary Police Department filed charges in the case of murder victim, Jerry Hood of Gary. The affidavit states that “on or about October 19, 2012, Javonta M.K. Pointer (of Gary) did kill Hood while committing or attempting to commit burglary.”
Pointer is currently at large, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
“We were able to file these charges thanks to great police work and the help of the community,” said Police Chief Wade Ingram.
Days after the murder, Wade orchestrated an anti-violence march in front of Hood’s home and asked the community to come forward and share any leads.
“After that march, we had an outpour of support,” added Wade. “This goes to show that we want and need help from the citizens, so we can get criminals off the streets of Gary.”
Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson also expressed relief that the perpetrator had been identified.
“I was happy to hear that Mr. Hood’s killer has been named,” said Freeman-Wilson. “I know this won’t bring Mr. Hood back, but I hope that his family finds comfort once the accused is captured, tried and convicted.”
Hood was shot and killed last fall as he walked in his home while it was being burglarized.
